Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia Launched

On 6th April, 2022, Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia held the launch ceremony in Lusaka. The Minister of Ministry of Commerce, Trade & Industrty Hon. Chipoka Mulenga represented Republic of Zambia Vice President Mrs Mutale Nalumango, the Charge d’ Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia Mr. Lai Bo, The Minister of Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon. Paul C. C Kabuswe, the Minister of Information and Media of Zambia, Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Chushi Kasanda, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Elias Mubanga, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture Hon. Green Mbozi, the Permanent Secretary of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Danny Mfune, Mayor of Lusaka  Her Worship Chilando Chitangala, the President of Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Zambia Association of Manufacturers Mr. Ashu Sagar, the President of Zambia French Chamber of Commerce Mrs. Harriet Mdala, the President of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia, President of Zambia Council for Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification of China, Chairman of CAMCO Group Mr. Li Tie, Council Member, Supervisory Board Member, Member units of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia and media representatives participated in the launch.

The Minister of Ministry of Commerce, Trade & Industrty Hon. Chipoka Mulenga said that the traditional friendship between Zambia has a long history and both sides will continue to deepen cooperation. Hon. Mulenga said the establishment of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia is conducive to enhancing the communication and exchanges between Zambian business associations and Chinese business associations to promote the development of Zambia trade and investment. He went on to say that the government will fully support the development of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and expect the Chamber to attract more companies from China to invest in Zambia and increase local employment opportunities.

Mr. Lai Bo, Charge d’ Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, said that Zambia is the first Southern African country to establish diplomatic relations with China, and China is the all-weather friend of Zambia. The Zambia-China relations are a model of friendship and South-South cooperation. Zambia encourages companies from the China to invest in Zambia and provides them with a stable business environment and preferential tax policies. “It is believed that the Chamber can provide comprehensive services for enterprise members in Zambia, increase the cohesion and influence of enterprises in Zambia, and promote economic and trade of non-governmental organizations in Zambia” Mr Lai Bo said in conclusion.

Mr. Li Tie, President of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia and Chairman of CAMCO Group said that Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia is a national, non-profit organization voluntarily formed by enterprises, groups and individuals from China engaged in economic and trade investment cooperation in Zambia. Mr Li said the association  obtained the registration certificate on January 26, 2022. Mr Li emphasized that the Chamber of Commerce aims to unite and lead its members, build a platform for communication between enterprises and the government, and among enterprises. He said that the association aims to  promote the sustainable development of Chinese private enterprises in Zambia. “We expect to extensive cooperation with local governments, business associations and enterprises to promote sustainable and inclusive development of enterprises and contribute to local economic and social development’ Mr Li said.

Mr. Huang Jibo, executive vice president of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Zambia, said that private enterprises from China have been developing in Zambia for more than 20 years, and the business covers mining, manufacturing, commerce, agriculture, tourism, etc. During operation private enterprises have encountered challenges such as poor communication with the government and lack of communication and understanding with industry operators. Mr Huang Jibo said the establishment of the Chamber of Commerce has built a platform for communication and exchange. He went on to thank the enthusiastic participation of more than 100 member companies, and more than 40 companies from all over the world.

After the ceremony, the minister of Ministry of Commerce, Trade & Industrty Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, the minister of Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Hon.Paul Kabuswe, the Minister of Information and Media of Zambia, Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Chushi Kasanda, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture Hon. Green Mbozi and Mayor of Lusaka Hon. Chilando Chitangala, visited the stands and product of the member units, and spoke highly of the investment in Zambia manufacturing by companies from China!
